Step 5-We admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs
We find after doing an exhaustive inventory of ourselves in step 4, that we have become aware of some specific types of wrongs that we must share to move on in our recovery (from whatever):
-Any addictions/compulsions
-Problems in and with our families of origin that may have led to our dependent or codependent
hungers
-Acknowledgement of our family of origin's multi-generational wrongs. We need to understand and be compassionate here!
-We need to be aware of the wrongs we have experienced in all major relationships in our lives.
-We need to acknowledge any damage to others and the specific ways in which we have wronged them.
The shame attached to these things is huge. We must therefore be very careful as to who we will share such with. A totally trusted individual who will listen without returning suggestions or solutions, someone who will guard your anonymity and keep sacred your sharing, no matter what (this is how I must feel when I share these thoughts and feelings with another human being). Many people choose to share with clergy or some other professional person (counsellor, therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, doctor etc). Others prefer associates within their 12 step program (many 12 steppers talk to their personal sponsors who are guiding them through the 12 steps).
We try to remember always that honesty is a great key to healing and that sharing lessens the pain instantly.
"Lord please bring to our awareness everything that is holding us back, let us see clearly our part and be with us as we share these things with a trusted person-amen!"
TWO WAY PRAYER FOR ANSWERS (WRITE, LISTEN, WRITE, LISTEN AND QUESTION ALL EXPERIENCES-GOD WILL DO THE REST)!
