".. I do not have a goal that encourages me to carry on" (Job 6 verse 11). The Life recovery bible references these thoughts in job 6: 2-13 in a commentary on step 1.

A major focus for me has always been PURPOSE. If there was something of significance that was unfinished, there would always be HOPE; this could be a work of art, a relationship repair, an amend of some sort, almost any important part of life in the past that required further attention.

My sense is that when we come to 12 steps we have exhausted many avenues and rarely realize that we need help for ourselves and not for someone else. The someone else or something else (whomever/whatever we would blame for any of our discomfort in life) is the very PURPOSE that directs us to the Spiritual solution that 12 step programs can provide. Step 1 is that HOPE as I become part of the first word of the first step"We admitted we were powerless over others and our dependencies-that our lives had become unmanageable." Now I am not alone and I am part of a support organization that Spiritually changes me and the changes in me magically set the ball rolling for changes in others (I don't have to see these changes to know they happen-hundreds of thousands who have gone before me, tell me so-do the steps and the magic will happen). PURPOSE+HOPE provided in Step 1.

As long as I do not reclaim my sense of false power (I am powerless without the Spiritual Power that operates within me -GOD), I will live in a new freedom, ever growing and healing.

KEEP COMING BACK is the only advice worth giving or receiving if I believe that the Spiritual aspect of the program is for real, and I DO!

Step 1 is the bedrock beneath our feet and has the POWER to change life from depravity to HOPE+PURPOSE! Come on along!! "Lord drive the truth of this first step deep within us that we might walk the spiritual walk and draw ever closer to real humility and value-Amen!"
