Step 1 commentary from "Life Recovery Bible":
There are times in our lives when we are so confused and overwhelmed by the pain in our life that we wish we could die....the weight of the pain and sadness seems too heavy to bear!
Further on we read...our recovery could be so complete that the final lines written about us might read: "At last he or she died, after living a long good life." Just remembering that our recovery can bring us from death's door to joy is sometimes what is needed that we might find the emotional energy to take one more step and so on and so on....! When the sword depression hits me from time to time, it is these first step related thoughts that provide me with the energy to know I CAN MAKE IT OUT SOMEHOW!
Lord separate us from our pain long enough to share with another as our meaningful contribution to his/her healing; may the burdens we share, be lightened as we move ahead in Your service-Amen
